Jean Marie Chavis

Jean Marie Chavis was born on August 11, 1959 in Newark, New Jersey. She departed this life and entered into eternal rest on February 12, 2024. Jean was a 1977 graduate of North High School and completed her post-secondary education at Salter College where she received a certification in Medical Billing and Coding. Jean was a long-time employee of Allegro MicroSystems, retiring in 2009 after 15 years of dedicated service. During her retirement, she joined the UMASS Memorial Healthcare System where she took on a role that allowed her to minister to people in need and provide guidance and support to families in crisis. Jean was baptized and raised in Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Thurman A. Hargrove where she served as the President of the Usher Board. Jean was also a long-time member of New Praise Cathedral Worship Center and served both her church and the greater Worcester community faithfully; spreading the gospel of Christ and building the kingdom of God. Jean was an active member of the Nokomis Elks Lodge #36, whose mission is to invest in building stronger communities. Jean was an activist and an advocate for marginalized communities of color and worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others. Jean was preceded in death by her loving and adoring Son; Kyle A. Chavis, Father; Jarvis C. Chavis, Brothers; Jarvis Chavis Jr. and Jeffrey Chavis and Sister; Deborah Chavis. To cherish her memories and legacy she leaves her Mother; Elnora Chavis, three Daughters, Shaina Chavis, Shanelle Chavis and Staisha Chavis; beloved and cherished Grandson, Jai M. Chavis, Granddaughters; Marley Chavis and Aniya Chavis; Brothers; Alfonso Chavis, Cassius Chavis, Jermaine Chavis, and Dennis Chavis, Sisters; Ruby Chavis and Diverna Chavis, nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of relatives and friends. Jean was the life of the party and her presence could light up any room. She enjoyed dancing, eating, laughing and getting dressed to the nines. Jean was strong in spirit and in character. She was outspoken, genuine, and unapologetically honest! Jean valued family, authenticity, compassion and respect. Let us honor her memory by bringing light into dark places, choosing laughter over tears, and most of all by spreading peace and love!
