Benjamin L. Avery

November 27, 1972 - September 23, 2020

Benjamin “Ben” L. Avery, 47, of Worcester, a well-known community youth advocate passed away unexpectedly after an acute illness on September 23, 2020 at the University of Massachusetts Hospital. Ben was born on November 27th, 1972 in Augsburg, Germany to Sergeant First Class Billy B. Avery and Maxalene (VanStory) Perry Avery. Ben graduated from Doherty Memorial Highschool, Class of 1991 where he was a star basketball player, receiving great recognition and many accolades. He then went on to obtain education at Quinsigamond Community College. Later, deciding to become a caretaker for his older brother Clarence. Ben went on to work for The Department of Youth Services in Grafton for several years, while still caring for his brother. Benjamin was a loving member of his community that served as a youth advocate. He was an Alumni member of the Iconic Ave Boys and Girls Club who dedicated hours to assisting the club in sports activities. Ben was a dedicated and loving father to his three children. He spent a lot of his time actively participating in his children’s sports and other extracurricular activities. He was extremely proud of their progress and success. He found great joy in watching sports and going fishing. He is survived by his three loving children, Quran Avery of Worcester, Ma born to his former wife Regina White, Cameron and Jordan Avery born to his loving friend Kirsti Salmi of Summerville, SC. His two sisters, Doris Quartey and Sandra (Matier) Alijah, His two brothers Thomas Matier and Todd Jackson all of Worcester. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his parents; Billy B. Avery and Maxalene (VanStory) Perry Avery, his brother Clarence L. Perry and his sister Brenda Matier. Calling hours for Ben will be held on Saturday, October 10th from 2pm-4pm at Bishop Funeral Home on 71 Pleasant St in Worcester Ma, who is honored to assist the family with arrangements. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to his children.
